Spain - Gamesa Eólica enters wind turbine generator deal with Longyuan
Madrid-based Gamesa Eólica signed a €200 million agreement to supply wind turbine generators to China Longyuan Electric Power Group. Gamesa said it will supply 405 of its G5X-850 kilowatt wind turbine generators with a total power of 344 megawatts.
The contract includes the supply of wind turbine generators, without towers, along with the supervision of their assembly and start-up, as well as two years of operation and maintenance. The equipment will be delivered throughout 2009 to seven wind farms located in different Chinese provinces.
The generators will be manufactured in Gamesa's new production facilities in Tianjin, China, which just started operations. The site is Gamesa's fourth production center in the country. The company said the production and assembly of its main wind turbine generator components are concentrated at the Tianjin facility, with the capacity to produce 700 MW annually of generators, gearboxes, blades and nacelles.
Gamesa's industrial project in China has involved an investment of nearly €40 million. The company's wind turbine sales in China during the past year accounted for 15 percent of its total sales, up from 11 percent in 2006. Gamesa said it had a worldwide market share of the wind generator industry above 15 percent in 2007.
