The Northeast region registered, at 9:09 p.m. on Tuesday (27/07), the first record in the generation of instant wind power of the year. According to the National Electric System Operator (ONS), production in the Northeast subsystem reached 19,028 Megawatt (MW) of power, corresponding to 152.8% of the submarket demand at that minute.

“MEM is fully committed to increasing the supply of energy to Brazil in a clean way, with renewable sources being the major protagonists of this change. This new record demonstrates that we are going in the right direction for an energy transition that contemplates environmental and social issues”, celebrates the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira.

The previous record came almost a year ago, at 10:56 p.m. on August 14, 2023, when the system showed a maximum power of 18,725 MW, equivalent to 149.9% of the demand at that time.

The first half of 2024 also registered a record in the series of expansion of installed capacity of energy in the country. Between January and June of this year, Brazil had an increase of 5.7 GW of power installed in its electric matrix. The goal is to close the year with a total of 10.1 GW.

The database of the MME, which adds to the calculation of Micro and Distributed Minigeneration (MMGD), recorded this semester that solar energy represented 19% of all energy present in the installed generation capacity.

According to the ONS, the period between the months of July and September is known as “wind season”, which increases the possibility that new maximum registrations will be verified in the coming weeks.
