8.2 Renewable Energy Experts Hamburg starts second stage of innovative floating solar project in Uganda
8.2 Renewable Energy Experts Hamburg GmbH has recently finalized the second project stage in supporting an innovative floating solar project ("Floating PV") in Uganda. Based on the results of the site inspections, the pre-feasibility of possible floating PV systems has been assessed. The interdisciplinary consultancy mandate ("Consultancy Services for Analytical Studies related to Prospects for Floating Solar Power Generation") is being carried out as part of a consortium led by Sweco International AB, represented by Sakeb Hussein. This Swedfund project aims to promote the use of solar energy in the country while meeting the needs of the local population, environment and economy.
The feasibility of possible floating PV systems has been assessed for four reservoirs of different hydropower plants along the Nile between the Jinja and Karuma. The suitability of the different sites has been evaluated and compared with each other based on holistic criteria. The aim was to determine an optimal site for the subsequent implementation of the first floating solar pilot project in Uganda. "We are proud to contribute to the promotion of renewable energy in Uganda and look forward to supporting this pilot project," explains Ralf Reek, Managing Director of 8.2 Renewable Energy Experts Hamburg. It is expected that the project will not only improve the supply of CO2-neutral, renewable electricity in the region, but also help to create jobs and promote economic development.
As part of the consultant team, 8.2 Renewable Energy Experts Hamburg GmbH will accompany the project from planning to the tendering stage.
