"If the EU supply chain directive were to fail, it would send a bad signal for global environmental and human rights protection. It would also be detrimental to the competitiveness of the German economy within the EU, especially for the many companies that are already operating sustainably. I regret that it has so far been impossible to reach an agreement on approval within the federal government, even though key demands for amendments from Germany were taken into account in Brussels. The trilogue outcome is a balanced compromise that has already addressed many concerns of the German economy and would still represent progress towards greater prosperity not based on the exploitation of nature and people."
