Ørsted announces extension of framework agreement with Hitachi Energy for offshore wind farms
During a visit to Hitachi Energy's factory in Ludvika, Sweden, Ørsted's Swedish country manager, Sebastian Hald Buhl, and Hitachi Energy's head of Europe, Middle East and Africa, Johan Söderström, together with country manager Tobias Hansson, announced the extension of the existing framework agreement between the companies for three years. This is to continue the supply of products and solutions for Ørsted's global portfolio of offshore wind projects, which includes Skåne Havsvindpark, subject to a contract.
Over the years, Ørsted has awarded several contracts to Hitachi Energy, including a significant contract for the entire transmission system for Hornsea 3, the world's largest offshore wind farm in the UK.
Sebastian Hald Buhl, Ørsted's Country Manager for Sweden, said, "Ørsted has the strongest links to the offshore wind supply chain in the industry, which today's announcement reflects. Hitachi Energy in Ludvika has some of the world's leading offshore wind expertise and I am pleased that we are once again working closely with the Swedish supply chain, in which we have already invested more than SEK 20 billion. Ørsted is developing the 1.5 GW Skåne offshore wind farm, and subject to final government approval of the project, we expect to invest at least SEK 25 billion to realize the project."
Johan Söderström, head of Europe, Middle East and Africa at Hitachi Energy, based in Sweden, said, "We are honored that Ørsted has placed its trust in us and look forward to further deepening our cooperation. Ørsted, a leader in the development of offshore wind turbines, has been a long-standing partner of Hitachi Energy, and the extension of the framework agreement underlines our commitment to further accelerate the energy transition in Sweden and Europe. As previously announced, we plan to hire more than 2,000 new employees in Sweden over the next two years, and this agreement supports our expansion plans."
Hitachi Energy has already supplied transmission equipment for Ørsted's Hornsea 1 and Hornsea 2 offshore wind farms in the UK, both of which have set records as the world's largest offshore wind farms. Ørsted is currently developing the world's largest offshore wind farm, Hornsea 3 (2800 MW), in which Hitachi Energy is also a supplier. The Hornsea 3 order will be produced both in Ludvika and at other locations in Europe and worldwide.
The long-term cooperation between Ørsted and Hitachi Energy also includes the supply of Hitachi Energy's range of transformers, switchgear and power quality systems, as well as digital innovations such as energy market management and automation and communication systems.
