Wind Industry Profile of
Iberdrola to build Spain's first hybrid wind-solar plant
Iberdrola will build the two photovoltaic plants of 41 and 33 MW, which will total more than 170,000 photovoltaic modules and will be located in the Burgos municipalities of Revilla Vallejera, Villamedianilla and Vallejera. The company is allocating more than €40 million to the construction of this project, which combines wind and solar energy at a single site for the first time in Spain.
Having two technologies capable of alternating significantly reduces dependence on changing environmental conditions and limitations due to possible lack of resources such as wind or sunshine, facilitating more stable and efficient renewable production, Iberdrola explains. Hybrid plants use the same grid connection and share infrastructure, ultimately bringing down costs of the projects and minimising the space needed for the renewable energy plants thus minimising the environmental impact of projects in the places where they are located.
Iberdrola will invest in this technology in the coming years in Spain, with which it aims to improve its renewable resources and make the most of existing locations.
