EWEC 2008 panel set for a lively debate on proposed RES Directive
The European Commission’s proposal for 20% renewable energy by 2020 has been well received by the wind industry. The combination of measures will reduce current administrative barriers and priorities grid access, whilst introducing a voluntary trading mechanism controlled by Member States. This will maintain investor confidence and encourage significant investment in wind energy.
The upcoming EWEC 2008 conference in Brussels will provide vital input to the ongoing discussions within Member States and the European Parliament. The ‘Renewable Energy Directive’ session on 31 March will provide an ideal platform for a discussion of the main regulatory issues surrounding the directive. The following key players will debate how best to ensure the rapid and effective implementation of the proposal:
Claude Turmes, MEP, Rapporteur for the Directive on the promotion of renewable sources Hans Van Steen, DG TREN, European Commission Martin Schöpe, Federal Ministry for the Environment, Germany Tim Abraham, Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR), UK Christian Kjaer , European Wind Energy Association (EWEA)
