New renewable ambitions in PM's energy strategy will cut bills and increase energy security
The renewable energy industry is welcoming the Government’s British Energy Security Strategy which sets ambitious new targets for clean technologies to reduce the UK’s dependence on gas as fast as possible. By 2030, 95% of UK power will be generate from low carbon sources - fossil fuel generation will shrink to just 5%, from around 40% today.
That shift will be powered largely by the growth of renewable sources with new targets and policies set out for wind, solar and renewable hydrogen. The Government has set a new ambition for 50GW of offshore wind by 2030, including up to 5GW of innovative floating wind projects - a world leading target.
