Denmark - Export of wind turbines reaches record-high

Countries such as the USA, India and China are queuing to buy the Danish wind turbines and also this year two-digit growth rates are expected. It is no longer a rarity to encounter Danish wind turbine plants along a dusty gravel road in for example the northern part of Spain.

Sustainable Danish energy is actually very popular abroad. Last year alone, the industry exported wind turbines, components and know-how for all of DKK 26.6 billion.

This is an increase of 41 per cent compared with the year before and indicates the massive growth rate that the Danish wind turbine industry has experienced the last few years, writes Erhvervsbladet.

The figures come from the Danish Wind Industry Association’s annual statistics in which it also appears that the companies’ entire turnover was DKK 32.8 billion in 2006. This is the equivalent of the Danish wind manufacturers handle a percentage of two-third of the industry’s turnover worldwide.

According to general manager Bjarne Lundager Jensen from the Wind Industry Association the industry estimates a growth rate in turnover as well as export of over 30 per cent this year.

"Globally, demand is huge for sustainable energy and the climate which is felt very tangibly in our industry. And there is no indication that it will cease as according to our prognosis the massive growth rate will continue at least till 2012," he adds.

Today, the Danish wind turbines industry employ approximately 20,000 staff in Denmark but the industry estimates that the demand will increase tremendously in the years to come. Consequently, especially engineers but also electricians, blacksmiths and technicians will be in demand.
