Shell applies for environmental permits for offshore wind projects in Brazil
Shell is planning to push offshore wind power in Brazil. The six projects currently under development, for which environmental permits have now been filed, will have a combined installed capacity of 17 GW.
Awaiting the determination of the remaining regulations that will guide the development of these projects in the country, the submission to IBAMA is a first step to ensure the study of the areas and the sustainable and responsible development of the investments required for licensing. The environmental studies will begin later this year.
"With more than 20 years of experience in wind energy and more than 50 years of tradition in offshore projects, Shell wants to combine its expertise in these two areas with the aim of providing more and cleaner energy for the country," said Gabriela Oliveira, Renewable Generation Manager of Shell in Brazil.
