RWE chooses Bureau Technical Services for Sofia Offshore Wind Farm
Sofia Offshore Wind Farm is owned by RWE and will comprise 100 turbines, an offshore converter station and hundreds of kilometres of both inter-array and export cables as well as onshore electrical infrastructure. It is located approximately 200km off the North-East coast of the UK and when completed is expected to generate enough energy to power 1.2 million homes annually.
The initial involvement of Bureau Technical Services is currently the export cables package at Prysmian’s Pikkala factory in Finland, where the company will be overseeing the manufacture and loadout of the 320kV HVDC offshore export cable along with multiple ad-hoc manufacturing surveillance activities in the UK and Europe.
Director of Operations Tom Greaves said: “The Sofia project marks another milestone in Bureau’s expanding Offshore Wind offering, becoming our twenty-project involvement since 2014. Due to our successful ongoing commitment to the Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm, we are pleased to be awarded this framework and be part of another RWE project.”
