UK - BWEA welcomes strengthening of Climate Change Bill
BWEA welcomes today's announcement by Secretary of State Hilary Benn to further strengthen the Climate Change Bill. A long-term policy framework is essential if investors are to be confident in putting money into low-carbon energy sources such as renewables. However, it is merely the first step in creating the right environment for such investment.
According to Adam Bruce, BWEA chairman, "Strong climate change targets are an important starting point but Government still needs to take urgent action to remove the bureaucratic obstacles impeding the growth of renewable energy generation in Britain, a key aspect of climate policy. This will enable the government to meet its already existing targets for 10% of electricity to be generated from renewable sources by 2010, and its aspiration for 20% of electricity by 2020."
