Wind Industry Profile of
Denmark commissions Scandinavia's largest wind farm
Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm has an installed capacity of 604 MW and produces enough electricity to cover the annual consumption of about 600,000 Danish households. The wind farm is located in the Baltic Sea, 15 to 40 kilometres off the Danish coast, and covers a total area of 132 km².
"With today's opening of the wind farm, we are a big step closer to our goal of fossil-free living within a generation. Kriegers Flak is an important contribution to the environmental transition, which is why we are proud that the wind farm is now ready to supply Danish households and industry with fossil-free electricity," says Anna Borg, President and CEO of Vattenfall, project developer of the wind farm.
The construction of Kriegers Flak was approved by the Danish Parliament in 2012. In May 2020, Vattenfall built the first foundation and earlier this year the first of 72 wind turbines was installed. Since then, all wind turbines have been successively erected and commissioned.
"Kriegers Flak was a very successful project that was commissioned ahead of schedule despite the construction phase in the middle of a severe pandemic. It demonstrates the commitment of society, our partners and Vattenfall to a climate-neutral future. At the same time, it underlines our strategic goal to enable a fossil-free life faster with renewable energy," says Helene Biström, Head of Business Area Wind at Vattenfall.
