Poland Awards First Contracts for Difference for Offshore Wind Projects

The Polish Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) has announced that Equinor and Polenergia's Baltyk II and Baltyk III projects have been awarded contracts for difference (CfD). With a total potential capacity of 1440 MW, these two are among the first offshore wind projects to be awarded in Poland.

ERO's award is an important milestone for the realisation of the two wind farms. It confirms the inclusion of the projects in the first phase of Poland's ambitious offshore wind development plan and makes an important contribution to the energy transition in Poland and the development of the local offshore wind supply chain.

Poland has a target to develop 5.9 GW of offshore wind by 2030 and up to 11 GW by 2040. With a combined capacity of 1440 MW, Baltyk II and Baltyk III could generate enough renewable offshore wind energy to supply two million Polish households. They are among the largest offshore wind projects currently under development in Poland.

Subject to all necessary agreements and approvals, and subject to the final investment decision by Equinor and Polenergia, construction could start as early as 2024.
