New Zealand - Wind turbines for Kiwi farms

New Zealand's Energy Recovery Engineering and Construction Ltd. (EREC) has unveiled a prototype wind turbine for installation in that country's rural areas. The 11 kW wind turbine, which stands approximately 39 feet, was installed in the town of Hukerenui; a second 11 kW wind turbine will be installed later this year in Rangiora. "A good deal of New Zealand is well suited to wind farming, and there seems to be a lot of interest in clean, independent energy that protects people from rising prices and blackouts," says John Post, president of EREC.
