Danish Offshore Wind Farm Kriegers Flak Nears Commissioning

Denmark's largest offshore wind farm, Kriegers Flak in the Baltic Sea, is about to be commissioned and will push offshore wind power to new heights in the country.

Denmark's largest offshore wind farm to date, Kriegers Flak, is expected to deliver its first green power from the end of this month, the Danish Energy Agency has announced. In the long term, the wind farm will be able to cover the annual electricity consumption for about 600,000 households, making it twice as big as previous Danish leader, Horns Rev 3.

"It is a milestone for Danish wind energy that Kriegers Flak, the largest Danish offshore wind farm to date, can now use the fresh wind of the Baltic Sea to generate green energy. Green energy is crucial for the climate-neutral society of the future. With the output of Kriegers Flak's offshore wind turbines, Denmark is once again proving to be a pioneer in the use of wind energy," said the Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Dan Jørgensen.

First electricity is expected to be fed into the grid at the end of January or beginning of February. After that, according to plan, the turbines will gradually be put into operation until the entire offshore wind farm is connected. The wind farm must be completely connected by 31 December 2021 at the latest. It will then supply green electricity for at least 25 years.
