Brazilian Energy Company Invests in Wind Projects

The renewable energy group Omega Geração is buying a 50 percent stake in wind farms owned by the French EDF Renewables Group in the Brazilian state of Bahia.

The turbines in the Ventos da Bahia 1 and 2 wind farm clusters have a capacity of 182.6 megawatts, as reported by Reuters. The two groups are also negotiating the additional purchase of wind farms with a capacity of 265 MW. Omega had recently acquired several wind farms from Electrobras, thereby greatly expanding its renewable energy offering.

With the recently announced purchase, Omega is approaching a generation capacity of 1.8 gigawatts, while deals in the pipeline could eventually result in capacity exceeding 2 gigawatts.
