German Government Sets Path for Offshore Growth
The offshore agreement was concluded between the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, the President of the Federal Network Agency and the President of the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency, together with the Energy Ministers of the coastal states and the managing directors of the transmission system operators involved (50Hertz, Amprion and TenneT). With the agreement, all parties commit themselves to a close cooperation in order to realize the wind energy expansion in the North Sea and Baltic Sea with a capacity of 20 GW by 2030. This offshore agreement lays the foundation for raising the offshore target from 15 GW to 20 GW by 2030. The concrete milestones and timetables for all parties involved ensure that the necessary planning and approval steps and the construction of the connecting pipelines and offshore wind farms go hand in hand.
This offshore agreement also implements a requirement from the 2030 Climate Protection Programme of October 2019 to conclude a binding agreement with the coastal countries concerned and the transmission system operators as a prerequisite for raising the offshore target to 20 GW.
