REpower: Third largest manufacturer of wind turbines in Germany in 2006

Hamburg, 16 January 2007. In 2006, REpower Systems AG (WKN 617703) advanced from fifth to third place in the ranking of the largest manufacturers of wind turbines in Germany. With a market share of 7.6 percent for the newly installed output of 2,233 megawatts last year (previous year: 1,808 MW), REpower established itself behind the competitors Enercon and Vestas and in front of other suppliers such as GE Energy, Siemens and Nordex.

Today the installation figures for 2006 were presented at the BWE (German Wind Energy Association) and VDMA (German Association of Machine and Plant Manufacturers) press conference in Berlin.

REpower’s CEO Prof Fritz Vahrenholt, expressed his delight about this development: “We have only just exceeded the 2,000 MW mark with the installations of our turbines and furthermore constructed our one thousandth turbine of the MD/MM megawatt series.” He added: “After three years, in which the installation figures in this country were in significant decline, the German wind industry is again expanding with over 2,200 MW of installed output. Even in our core foreign markets – in which we make 70% of our sales – we have come closer to our target of becoming one of the largest manufacturers and being ranked among the top manufacturers in countries such as Great Britain, France, Portugal and Japan.”
