High demand for REpower technology in China

- Licence partner Dongfang wins tender for 300 megawatts
- Agreements for 63 additional turbines negotiated

Hamburg/Chengdu, 16 November 2006. In 2020, wind energy is likely to contribute 30,000 megawatts to China’s energy supply. There is already a strong demand for highly developed wind energy technology now. The Chinese government recently called tenders for a total of 1,300 megawatts. The energy supplier China Guangdong Nuclear won one of the two biggest projects for 300 megawatts and chose REpower’s licence partner Dongfang as the supplier for the wind energy turbines.

These are turbines from REpower’s MD class with a rated output of 1.5 megawatts which Dongfang constructs under licence. The turbines are to be erected in Huitengliang in Inner Mongolia, a region with best wind conditions.

Dongfang also reported that it concluded agreements for a total of 63 additional MD turbines for three wind farms.

The Dongfang Group, which is based in Chengdu (Sichuan Province), is one of the leading manufacturers of steam and gas turbines in China. A licence agreement has been in place between Dongfang and REpower Systems AG for two years.
