Saudi Arabia to Build Its First Wind Farm

A consortium, comprising of France’s EDF Energies Nouvelles and Abu Dhabi’s Masdar, has won the rights to build the first wind farm in the country

Arabian Business reports that Saudi Arabia’s energy ministry has awarded a contract for the $500 million Dumat Al Jandal wind power project to said consortium. The project, a 400 MW wind farm in the Al Jouf region, will be the the first commercial wind farm in Saudi Arabia.

The wind farm will generate power for up to 70,000 Saudi households and create a lot of new jobs during construction and maintenance.
