Supply contract: Three REpower 5M wind turbines for wind farm financed by citizens in Westre/North Frisia

Hamburg, 29 September 2006. Yesterday, REpower Systems AG signed a contract with Grenzstrom Vindtved GmbH & Co. KG for the installation of three REpower 5M wind turbines in Westre (North Frisia), close to the German-Danish border. This test field for offshore wind power is going to be the biggest REpower 5M project. The whole concept consists of three wind farms (Westre, Ellhöft, Lydersholm) which are financed by citizens. In total, there are 200 limited partners involved, 30 of them of Danish nationality. Hereby, citizens of three communes and two states establish one corporation for the fist time.

The realisation period of the wind farm Grenzstrom Vindtved is planned between the end of 2007 and autumn 2008. The wind turbines have a hub height of 100 metres and the tip-height of the rotor blade amounts to 163 metres.

The project Vindtved receives wide support from the German as well as from the Danish side, as it strengthens the border region by creating new jobs and embedding regional added value.

The REpower Systems AG realised, beside a prototype in Brunsbüttel, its first offshore installation of the 5M-turbine in August. Until the end of this year, two further 5M turbines are planned to be installed at an offshore test field in Cuxhaven.
