UK - Proposal for UK's biggest wind turbine
Plans have been unveiled for a field of giant wind turbines off the Northumberland coast. One of the turbines planned for Battleship Wharf, near Blyth, would be 163ft - making it the biggest in the UK. The other six, at 150ft, would each be three times higher than Nelson's Column. The structures are proposed by London-based Hainsford Energy. The greatest opposition comes from Newcastle Airport, where bosses fear interference with radar systems. A spokesman said: "We have requested a radar impact analysis survey so that the impact of the turbines can be understood." But Port of Blyth chief executive Martin Lawlor said: "This project can only be good news for the strategy to regenerate the Blyth estuary."
