World's Largest Offshore Wind Farm: First Jackets Completed

Navantia and Iberdrola celebrate the completion of the first four jacket foundations for East Anglia One in Spain

In the coming months, a further 42 jackets and 126 other piles will be built by Navantia for East Anglia ONE on the shipyard's site in Fene, Spain.

Iberdrola's UK subsidiary, Scottish Power, will build the world's largest offshore wind farm, East Anglia One, which will extend over 30,000 football pitches and supply half a million homes with electricity. By 2020, the 102 turbines with a combined capacity of 714 MW will be installed off the south-east coast of England.

This is the second joint project of Navantia and Iberdrola after the cooperation at the German offshore wind farm Wikinger. According to the company, the contract has created 800 jobs. At peak times, up to 1300 people are simultaneously involved in the project.

The President of Iberdrola, Ignacio S. Galán, said: "This new contract confirms our firm commitment to Galicia, where the company has invested an additional 1.2 billion euros in the region over the last ten years and employs more than 700 people. We also want to express our willingness to continue to operate as an economic engine and a dynamic element of employment not only in Galicia but also in other areas of Spain, such as Andalusia. There, the transformer station for this British wind farm will be built in the Navantia shipyards in Cádiz, as has already been done for the German Wikinger wind farm.“
