Wind Industry Profile of
North Sea Wind Power for Switzerland
In a consortium with Fontavis, the electricity company of the city of Zurich ewz acquires a stake in the wind farm project Trianel Borkum II in the German North Sea.
The planned wind farm is located about 45 kilometers northwest of the island of Borkum and about 65 kilometers from the mainland and is to be erected next year. With a capacity of 200 megawatts and 32 wind turbines, ewz can expand its annual wind production by around 30 percent.
The consortium has bought a stake of 25 percent, the other shareholders of the Trianel Wind Farm Borkum II are German energy supplier EWE and the Stadtwerke-Cooperation Trianel together with 18 municipalities and municipal energy suppliers from Germany. With the ewz share of the annual electricity production of about 105 gigawatt hours (GWh) about 39,000 average households could be supplied in the city of Zurich.
