Expansion of wind energy in Brazil exceeds 10 gigawatts
The Brazilian wind power association ABEEólica has published figures for wind power expansion in Brazil last year. According to this, the largest country in South America at the end of December had 10.74 gigawatts of wind power installed, distributed over 430 wind farms. By 2020, an additional 7.23 GW in 310 wind farms has already been commissioned or are already in the construction phase.
Recently, however, the country made headlines, as a planned tender was canceled at the end of 2016. According to the authorities, it is due to be carried out in the course of 2017, but the reason for the cancellation is seen in a declining demand for wind energy, which put the Brazilian market under pressure.
