Lamprell wins contract for East Anglia One Offshore Wind Farm
The East Anglia One project is located in the UK waters of the southern North Sea and aims to be the best value offshore windfarm to go in to construction anywhere in the world. It is a largescale project which will utilise 102 turbines, each with a capacity of 7 megawatts (MW), which is expected to generate power for more than 500,000 homes every year.
Lamprell's contract will also create jobs in the UK, working closely with Harland & Wolff in Belfast on this project.
Drawing on 150 years of experience in marine construction, Harland and Wolff will perform jacket assembly works for Lamprell at their modern facilities in Belfast, prior to final delivery to ScottishPower Renewables. Lamprell's scope of works includes procurement, fabrication and supply of 60 foundations (comprising jackets and piles) to ScottishPower Renewables who will then install the jackets foundation structures to facilitate later installation of the wind turbine generators offshore. Fabrication work in Lamprell's Jebel Ali and Sharjah yards in the UAE is scheduled to start in March 2017, with deliveries to be made between March and October 2018. The contract is valued at approximately US$225 million.
Commenting on the award, Christopher McDonald, Chief Executive Officer, Lamprell, said: "We are proud to be part of this flagship project developed in the North Sea. This is a significant award for Lamprell and represents a big step forward in servicing the fast growing renewables segment. This project gives us an opportunity to demonstrate how our fabrication skills are once again transferrable to other areas of the energy industry and beyond our traditional sweet spot in the oil & gas sector."
