Further growth in the onshore sector: EnBW acquires four onshore wind farms with a total capacity of 55 megawatts

EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG is further expanding the area of renewable energies with the acquisition of four onshore wind farms in various regions of Germany. EnBW had only recently strengthened its maintenance and servicing business in the area of wind power with the acquisition of the Danish service provider Connected Wind Services A/S.

The newly acquired wind power portfolio consists of a total of 35 turbines with a total capacity of 55 megawatts. EnBW has thus expanded its onshore capacity from the current figure of around 280 megawatts to 335 megawatts. The acquisition also sees EnBW positioning itself in new planning regions and increases the potential for future repowering measures.

The purchase contract for the four wind farms in Bremervörde (Lower Saxony), Ostercappeln (Lower Saxony), Zernitz (Brandenburg) and Rositz (Thuringia) was concluded today with the Danish financial investor N-Wind Administration ApS and other Danish companies and private individuals. The contractual partners have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. The acquisition is still subject to the approval of the Federal Cartel Office.

“We have set ourselves the goal of expanding onshore wind power to 1000 megawatts by 2020. And we have taken another step towards achieving this goal with the acquisition of these four wind farms. At the same time, our own extremely intensive project development work over the last few years is starting to bear fruit. We have currently already taken the decision to construct projects with a total capacity of 100 megawatts, of which 65 megawatts is already in the actual construction phase”, according to Chief Technical Officer Hans-Josef Zimmer.

EnBW plans to expand renewable energies to make them one of the main pillars of the company and its Group operating result by 2020. In this context, the expansion of wind power plays a central role. In the onshore sector, EnBW has also substantially increased its regional presence and founded four branches for project development across Germany. Following the acquisition of the manufacturer-independent service provider Connected Wind Services A/S (CWS), EnBW has this year also swiftly become a significant player in the fast growing area dealing with the servicing and maintenance of wind power plants. CWS will enable EnBW to open up new business fields with considerable growth potential and to expand its position as a strong player in the renewable energies segment.
