WindEnergy Hamburg 2016: Exhibitors closing first deals

Recruiting Day to turn world's leading expo for wind energy into job exchange

Open until 30 September at the Hamburg Messe fair site

WindEnergy Hamburg is once again delivering proof of its role as a true global business platform for the wind industry. When the world's leading expo for wind energy opened this week, several international companies seized the opportunity to close or announce major business deals. Until Friday, roughly 1,400 exhibitors from 34 nations are showcasing product novelties and services for the onshore and offshore wind sector.

Senvion and Trianel sign contract for wind turbines and services

The manufacturer Senvion will supply the offshore wind turbines for the “Borkum II” Trianel wind farm. Both Senvion and Trianel signed the conditional contract for turbines and services for Trianel Windkraftwerk Borkum II GmbH & Co. KG (TWB II) at the WindEnergy Hamburg trade fair. The offshore wind farm, scheduled to be completed by autumn 2019, will comprise 32 Senvion 6.XM series wind turbines with a combined installed power generation capacity of 203 Megawatts (MW). Trianel-Windpark Borkum II will be built 45 kilometres to the north of the island of Borkum in the German North Sea. This is the second phase of the larger Trianel Borkum wind farm project whose phase 1 portion was commissioned in September 2015. In waters 25 to 35 metres deep, the 32 Senvion 6.2M152 wind turbines will jointly be capable of generating more than 800 million kWh of energy per year, equivalent to the energy consumption of about 210,000 households. Construction could begin in early 2018.

GE Renewable Energy has won a contract for the delivery of wind turbines for the 50 MW Tire project located near Izmir in western Turkey. As the WindEnergy Hamburg exhibitor reported, nine 3.2 MW wind turbines and thirteen 1.7 MW units will be erected in the wind farm owned by Turkerler Holding.

Fair exhibitor Siemens announced the closing of a maintenance and repair contract covering the offshore grid interconnections as well as the platform and turbine substructure at the Veja Mate offshore project. Siemens is installing 67 turbines of its 6 MW class for the 400 MW wind farm and will provide the BorWin2 land-based direct current grid interconnections. The maintenance agreement, which cover a 5-year period, will take effect once the project has been commissioned, presumably at the end of 2017. The contract was awarded by Veja Mate Offshore Projects GmbH. The Veja Mate offshore wind farm is currently being built northwest of the island of Borkum, 115 kilometres off the eastern Frisian coast. Installation of the SWT-6.0-154 series wind turbines will begin in March 2017 in water depths ranging between 39 and 41 metres.

WindEnergy Hamburg 2016: Recruiting Day to draw crowds on Friday

World's leading expo for wind energy to become international job exchange

On the final day of the fair (Friday 30 September), attention at the event will focus on recruiting. Unlike other industries, the blossoming wind power industry harbours many opportunities for promising jobs and careers. Interested talents may come to the fair on Recruiting Day to speak directly with potential employers in the special exhibition section between Halls B1 and B2. Companies such as Siemens, Nordex, Enercon, Kelly and Windigo as well as recruiters, universities and other educational and training institutions have already set up stands in this area to welcome potential applicants. At Speakers’ Corner in the same area there will be speeches by featured experts highlighting current trends within the industry, the expectations placed in future employees, as well as types of jobs, job openings, opportunities and challenges.

Furthermore, human resources managers will be available at many exhibitors' stands throughout the fair halls to speak with jobseekers on Recruiting Day. All participating companies will be identified appropriately in the exhibition halls and along the Job Route which is outlined in both, the Visitor Guide and the exhibitor list. Interested visitors will be able to access WindEnergy Hamburg on Recruiting Day – Friday from 9 AM until 6 PM at a reduced entry fee of €10 (at the pay desks).
