Global: “The energy reform in Mexico means a major boost to productive investment”

ACCIONA Energía CEO Rafael Mateo expressed a positive opinion on the effects of the energy reform in Mexico during the prize-giving ceremony of the Spanish Wind Power Sector Association (AEE) which held its congress in Madrid this week.

Mr. Mateo said that the energy reform in Mexico is an example of an orderly transition towards a more sustainable energy model, with a strong presence of clean technologies, and it also represents a major boost to productive investment. In recognition of this, he handed over an award to Ximena Caraza, Director of ProMéxico in Spain, during a dinner organized by the AEE.

A notable milestone in the Mexican energy reform was the first auction of electricity of renewable origin held earlier this year. ACCIONA was allocated 585.7 gigawatt-hours (GWh), which will be fed into the grid by a new 168-megawatt (MW) wind farm in the State of Tamaulipas.

During the dinner, ACCIONA Institutional Relations Director Joaquín Mollinedo handed over the ‘Eolo’ Photography and Journalism Prizes, the winners being Santiago Bañón and Julio Pérez respectively, as well as the Annual AEE Prize to the International Energy Agency (IEA), which was received by its Head of Renewables, Paolo Frankl.
