Germany: REETEC establishes a very efficient on- and offshore internal blade inspections solution

REETEC GmbH successfully tested a new internal blade inspection system and method on an offshore blade over 60 metres lengths, producing a safe solution to inspect almost 100% of the interior area of blades for wind turbines.

The traditional inspection method up to now required a 3 o`clock blade position and hazardous working conditions for 3 service technicians in confined space. The blade tip area was not reachable this way and additionally it was a very time consuming process compared to the new tested system.

The required equipment for REETEC’s new internal blade inspection method, consisting of a high resolution rotary swivel head camera, measurement laser and supporting devices, is installed in about 1 hour. After the inspection in a 6 o`clock position the system automatically generates an inspection report draft as part of the workflow. All in all this new inspection method offers a high visibility within a very short time frame – and reduces the connected HSE issues considerably.

REETEC performed the test of the internal blade inspection system in a North Sea wind farm. Combining data acquisition, data processing, documentation, reporting and, if required, repair activities on- and offshore the service provider REETEC is now able to offer an all-in blade package.

“Next to the offshore test, 15 onshore turbines were tested successfully with the new system, which is now released for all new inspections projects.
