Spain: ACCIONA now supplies renewable electricity to the leading museums in Spain after signing a contract with the “Reina Sofía”

The company supplies clean electricity to 22 museums and cultural centers that receive over 9 million visitors a year

ACCIONA Energía has been awarded the contract to supply electricity to  the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, which strengthens its leadership as a supplier of energy to museums and similar centers in Spain. The company currently supplies renewable energy to the biggest museums in the country, which welcome more than 9 million visitors a year.

The contract with the Reina Sofía, awarded in a public auction, will run  for one year from last April 1st, during which period around 10.4 gigawatt-hours (GWh) are forecast for supply.

This new client joins a long list of museums and cultural centers to which ACCIONA currently supplies energy through its marketing subsidiary ACCIONA Green Energy Developments. All the electricity marketed by the company is certified by the National Competition Commission as 100% renewable and it comes from plants owned by it or from third parties  represented by it.

"It is a great satisfaction for us to contribute to introducing energy sustainability into the worlds of art exhibition and culture in general, and to do it competitively in competition with other operators", says ACCIONA Green Energy Developments Director Santiago Gómez Ramos.

Among the company’s customers in this sector apart from the Reina Sofía are the Prado, the Thyssen-Bornemisza, the National Library and eighteen state-owned museums that come under the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.

The contracts to supply these institutions represent a total volume of energy of  around 46 GWh, avoiding the emission of some 44,000 metric tons of CO2 to the atmosphere from conventional coal-fired power stations.
