Belgium: MHI Vestas Offshore Wind appointed preferred supplier for 370 MW project
MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has won a competitive tender process and has been awarded preferred supplier status for the 370 MW Norther offshore wind power plant in Belgium. The project is owned by Norther N.V., with two shareholders Eneco (50%) and Elicio N.V. (50%). When commissioned in 2019 the Norther project will be Belgium’s largest wind power plant.
CEO Jens Tommerup said, “We are extremely pleased that following a competitive tender process Eneco and Elicio have chosen MHI Vestas Offshore Wind as the preferred supplier for the Norther project, which will be the largest offshore wind power plant in Belgium.”
“MHI Vestas has a strong partnership with Eneco, who we have worked with to deliver the 129 MW Eneco Luchterduinen and 120 MW Princess Amalia projects in the Netherlands, while we look forward to building our relationship with Elicio N.V. going forwards. Being selected as the preferred supplier for the Norther project underlines the customers’ confidence in the V164-8.0 MW and of MHI Vestas, and represents a big step forwards in our partnership,” said Jens Tommerup.
Norther with an awarded grid capacity of 370 MW is located in the Belgian North Sea, approximately 22 km off the coast of Zeebrugge and is able to produce clean energy to cover the consumption of 370,000 Belgian households, contributing significantly to Belgium meeting its target of generating 13% of its energy needs from renewable sources by 2020.
