Costa Rica - Renewable Energy for the Developing World Workshop

Workshop dates: January 23 - 26, 2006 / Cost: $650 / Location: Rancho Matastal, Costa Rica

INTRODUCTION

This January, join Solar Energy International (SEI) at Rancho Mastatal, Costa Rica for a seven-day overview course on renewable energy technologies for the developing world. Take advantage of this great opportunity to enjoy one of Costa Rica's most undiscovered regions while learning about renewable energy. Rancho Mastatal is an environmental learning and sustainable living center, retreat, and lodge located in the last virgin rainforest of Costa Rica's Puriscal County. Rancho Mastatal practices and promotes living responsibly in the tropics, while educating its visitors about the significance and majesty of the world's disappearing tropical forests.

The seven-day Renewable Energy for the Developing World-Hands-On (REDWHO) workshop will include classroom sessions and labs, and will have a strong hands-on component. It will take place January 23-29, 2006 at Rancho Mastatal, and the tuition is US$650. The workshop will focus on three main projects: building and using solar cookers, designing and installing a solar-electric system, and building a methane digester. Other sessions and tours will cover solar, wind, and hydroelectricity, solar hot water, and social and cultural issues surrounding renewable energy in the developing world.
