Canada - Xantrex announces US $12 million wind converter order from Clipper Windpower for 2006

Order valued at $10 million over two years

Xantrex Technology Inc. (TSX:XTX) has received an order for wind converters valued at $12M from Clipper Windpower Technology Inc. of Carpinteria, CA for delivery in 2006. This order exceeds the framework agreement announced on September 15, 2005 for approximately $10 million over two years. These Xantrex converters will be used in Clipper's new 2.5 megawatt Liberty wind turbine. "This order is indicative of the firming of our business prospects," said James Dehlsen, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Clipper. "We believe this relationship has already created significant opportunities for both companies," said Xantrex Chairman Mossadiq Umedaly. "This order positions Xantrex as a provider of key enabling technology for the wind industry."

Xantrex worked with Clipper to create a high performance 2.5 MW converter using a new technology platform which consists of four 625 kilowatt modules. This is the largest capacity wind converter that Xantrex has produced. It converts variable power from the wind turbine's generators into high-quality AC power for the utility grid, and it meets challenging new guidelines established this year by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for grid-fault ride-through capability.

The Xantrex converters will be incorporated into the Clipper Liberty turbine, which Clipper believes is the most technologically advanced wind machine for commercial power generation. "The design and performance of Xantrex's wind converter makes it a perfect match for the advanced technological specifications of the Liberty turbine" said Dehlsen. "With the reliability and high efficiency of this converter, we expect to have a long-term relationship with Xantrex." The Xantrex converters were tested for many months at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado, as well as in the field with the prototype Liberty turbine in Medicine Bow, Wyoming.

Clipper plans to install the first Xantrex converters late this year, and deploy the first Liberty turbines that include the Xantrex converters at a new wind farm in Minnesota. Xantrex designs and manufactures custom multi-megawatt wind converters for a number of different wind turbine manufacturers worldwide.
