News Release from Prysmian
Wind Industry Profile of
France: Prysmian at EWEA Annual Event 2015
Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, will showcase its state-of-the-art range of products and services for the wind power industry at the 2015 European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) Annual Event, due to take place in Paris (France) from November 17 to 20, booth M-03 and Offshore Village.
As part of its business strategy Prysmian keeps on strengthening its commitment to the added-value market of wind energy and will be present at EWEA Annual Event 2015 with an enlarged portfolio of products and services. This will include AC and DC power transmission submarine cable systems and advanced turbine cabling solutions with high resistance to abrasion, UV radiations, corrosion, bending and torsion stress for increased efficiency, reliability and safety, specifically designed to meet highly demanding conditions of plants and installation areas, including the Group’s new Feltoflex HV cable system for moveable interconnection between platforms.
The event comes at a very important time for the Group, which has recently completed, with success, the electrical type tests on its 66 kV complete submarine cable system. Tests were carried out according to CIGRE and IEC testing protocols. The tested solution - that includes also factory, field joints and click-fit terminations - combines the use of state of the art EPR insulation with the cost effectiveness of wet design and aluminium conductors (copper conductors are also available).
Prysmian has more than 40 years successful experience with wet design EPR insulated cables up to 72.5 kV class and the success in the qualification of its 66 kV system will provide the necessary confidence to offshore wind developers to step the intra-array system voltage up from the typical 33 kV to 66 kV. This will ensure a significant reduction in Levelized Cost Of Electricity and a higher competitiveness of future wind energy systems.
Over the years Prysmian has moved ahead with major investments in new and upgraded assets, broadening the range of its offered products and innovative technologies, strengthening services and capabilities in production and execution in order to serve the market as a trusted and dedicated partner for offshore wind parks cabling needs, whether for medium voltage inter-array cables, HVAC and/or HVDC export cables, as well as turn-key EPC installation services.
Prysmian can rely on three production facilities dedicated to submarine cables, situated in Arco Felice (near Naples, Italy), Pikkala (Finland) and Drammen (Norway); two installation vessels, Giulio Verne and the recently upgraded Cable Enterprise, together with well-proven in-house cable protection equipment, and specialised operations teams.
Within its portfolio, Prysmian holds already an ever-increasing track record of offshore wind power connections. In 2015 Prysmian has announced the successful commissioning and handover of four HVDC offshore grid connections for the BorWin2, HelWin1, HelWin2 and SylWin1 wind farm clusters. Prysmian is currently also implementing the HVDC cable systems for the DolWin3 and BorWin3 projects, the HVAC cable system for the West of Adlergrund wind cluster and the medium voltage submarine cables for the Wikinger offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea in Germany and the Bligh Bank 2 offshore wind farm in Belgium.
