US: RES and GES sign strategic partnership
The AO&M offshore market is evolving. Early projects are coming out of initial warranty periods and non-utility investors have begun to take ownership positions in operational projects. The new alliance addresses these changes by creating the resources and capabilities to provide services at scale and safely through one team.
Jim Sandon, COO of RES Offshore said: “GES stands out as a leading company in the installation and maintenance of wind farms around the world. With more than 3,000 staff maintaining over 12 GW of assets, they are providing reliable on-site delivery at volume. Our offshore and engineering expertise unlocks the market for GES to deploy their considerable experience.”
Through the alliance, clients can access asset management and O&M services for wind turbines and balance of plants including transmission assets. The alliance will also be able to deliver and/or manage blade inspections and maintenance campaigns, major repairs and retrofits, subsea surveys, condition monitoring and reliability and control room services through a 24/7 control room. There is also the capability to conduct client representation and as well as snagging activities to projects under construction. Clients will benefit from skilled project management and experienced large pool of technicians, bringing together multiple strands of expertise into a single, coherent contract.
Thorsten Kramer, CEO at GES said: “RES is turning offshore wind into onshore delivery for GES. Their asset and overall management capabilities, together with their HSE and technical support, combined with our delivery record, is a formidable alliance with which to expand into the offshore AO&M market.”
Both businesses have a global presence, strong balance sheets and relevant experience spanning over 30 years each. RES currently manages 1.3 GW and GES maintains over 12 GW of operational assets.
