Germany: Fred. Olsen Windcarrier awarded the transport and installation contract for Wikinger by Adwen

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier has been contracted by Adwen for the transport and installation of 70 Adwen 5MW turbines, AD 5-135, at the Wikinger Offshore Wind Farm, with manpower supplied by related company Global Wind Service.

Construction is expected to start in early 2017 with estimated completion during the second half of 2017.

The Wikinger Offshore Wind Farm is located off the island of Rügen in the German exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the Baltic Sea and once built will supply power to 350,000 households.

Martin Degen, Commercial Manager for Fred. Olsen Windcarrier said “We are delighted to have won the Wikinger installation contract and look forward to working for Adwen once again in the delivery of this project. From previous experience they are a highly efficient and professional company to work with and we have established a strong relationship with their project teams”.

Markus Dülks, Wikinger project director of Adwen said: “By combining Adwen expertise with Fred Olsen know-how and proven track record regarding offshore wind turbines installation, we are reaching a new milestone for a successful realization of the Wikinger project. We look forward to a fruitful cooperation”.

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier is experienced at installing Adwen turbines after contributing to the erection of AD 5-116 at the Global Tech I wind farm in the German Bight last year.
