Wind Industry Profile of
UK: 200 school pupils see construction of Vattenfall wind project with their own eyes
This project will be a big part of the young people’s lives and it is therefore important for them to learn about the construction process first hand.
In addition, the groups had the opportunity to learn more about where the energy they use comes from and whether they feel the electrical items they use are vital or a luxury in everyday life. Staff from the schools were pleased to see the children enjoying different discussions about energy in their workshop groups, with a healthy debate in some cases.
The pupils were amazed at the size of the foundations, but understood that they are required to be this large to successfully support the turbines. The groups were excited about the prospect of returning to site next year to see the cranes in action, lifting the turbine components into place.
Over the summer period we expect over 100 local residents to also join us for a site visit. If you are interested please get in touch.
A big thank you to our contractors Jones Bros/Balfour Beatty and Natural Resources Wales’ Education Team who sponsored the cabin and provided their support during the visits.
