Inside Danish Wind - MHI Vestas tests 8MW mettle
MHI Vestas is to install two V164-8.0MW turbines at an onshore site near Esbjerg to enable “further testing of the installation and operation” of the offshore wind unit.
European Energy and partner BMC Energi will own the machines and build them at Maade as part of a wider development that also includes two next-generation V117-3.45MW turbines.
The hardware is expected to be delivered by the end of this year and testing will form part of the run-up to "commencement of serial deliveries offshore”, said MHI Vestas.
Tests of the V117 “will serve the purpose of further improving the performance of the 3MW platform”.
“MHI Vestas is extremely pleased to be able to partner with European Energy to continue our testing and verification of the V164 and V117 turbines. For the V164, it’s another big milestone for the company and it sends a clear signal to the market that the development of the turbine is on track,” said chief executive Jens Tommerup.
"Not only will we further verify the performance, reliability and efficiency of the wind turbine, we can also test and hone our installation and service techniques before we take the turbine offshore,” he added.
