Wind Industry Profile of
Sandbank: Loadout of first foundations
During Monday and Tuesday, the transition pieces were lifted onto the barge. The 72 transition pieces that Bladt will fabricate for this project weigh approximately 290 tonnes each and have a diameter of 5.5 meters. Prior to its arrival in Aalborg, the barge had picked up the four appertaining monopiles from EEW-SPC in Rostock.
The transition pieces were properly fastened and readied for their journey, first to Esbjerg, Denmark where both the transition pieces and the monopiles will be loaded on to the installation vessel Pacific Orca and then sailed to their final destination in Sandbank Offshore Wind Farm. Sandbank is owned by Vattenfall (51%) in joint venture with Stadtwerke München (49%), and the offshore wind farm will be located off the German coast in the North Sea.
At Bladt’s upending site in Aalborg, the next transition pieces are in the process of being finished – right next to the row of transition pieces for the Gode Wind project. On this project, another load out was started Tuesday afternoon after the transition pieces for Sandbank had been sent on their way.
