Wind Industry Profile of
Construction of North Devon Wind Farm due to commence
The ground breaking works will include installation of the site compound, access tracks, turbine foundations and the substation building. Wind turbine deliveries and installation are planned for early Spring 2016. It is expected that construction will last approximately 18 months with the site becoming fully operational summer 2016.
Michael Williams, Senior Project Manager at RWE Innogy UK said, “This is an exciting time. It is a significant milestone to start construction and is the culmination of many years of hard work. Once operational the 9 turbine wind farm will have a total generating capacity of 18MW. That is enough clean energy to power the annual domestic needs of around 8,900 average UK households.
“The UK is the windiest country in Europe. It makes perfect sense to maximise the benefits of our natural and sustainable resources whilst reducing our dependency on costly fossil fuel imports. Regular updates on our construction and progress will be posted on our dedicated Batsworthy Cross Wind Farm webpage.”
