Wind Industry Profile of

New DEWI statistics: Offshore energy reaches new peak in Germany

DEWI showcases its offshore expertise at the EWEA Offshore in Copenhagen

DEWI launches the new edition of its annual DEWI statistic, which is being used by public authorities as well as enterprises as the go-to knowledge pool on the development of the wind energy sector. The result of the statistic shows that never before has the offshore wind energy grown so rapidly as last year. In 2014, 324 wind turbines with a total capacity of 1437.4 MW offshore were built and 142 wind turbines with a capacity of 529 MW started to feed electricity into the grid. In total, offshore wind turbines produced 2352.3 MW in Germany.

The statistical data is part of the latest DEWI research, which has recently been released on the website www.dewi.de. The analysis also contains information about the development of onshore and the repowering sector as well as differences among the federal states in Germany and wind turbine producers. DEWI has been publishing this renowned statistics about the generation of wind energy in Germany for over 20 years. The national and international specialized media as well as federal ministries, market analysts, banks, manufacturers and planners use these figures.

DEWI is a global wind energy service provider and has participated in many offshore research projects since 1999. Therefore, DEWI has built a strong expertise in this sector and continues to expand its capacities to be able to respond to the increasing demands of offshore developments. Accordingly, DEWI is going to open an office in Hamburg, focusing solely on the offshore activities. DEWI’s offshore experts can be met at the EWEA Offshore Conference at booth C4-A12 in the Bella Center in Copenhagen from March 10 to 12.

In addition to the typical project and turbine certification services, DEWI will be introducing new services such as condition monitoring and underwater acoustics. DEWI has developed a measurement system for underwater acoustics to monitor the wind farm installation in real-time and therefore helping to comply with local requirements of major offshore markets, such as Germany but also offers customized and all inclusive service packages. “The real-time approach allows the optimization of the installation process further by using existing margins towards acceptable sound levels,” said Tees Nachtigall, Business Development Manager, Offshore.
