Vestas receives 73 MW order for unique project in Greece
The 73.2 MW order was placed by Terna Energy of Greece, a long-standing Vestas partner that has installed more than 350 MW in the country. The contract for the Agios Georgios wind power plant consists of nine V90-3.0 MW turbines and 14 V112-3.3 MW machines.
The order also comprises supply, installation, and commissioning of the turbines as well as a five-year Active Output Management (AOM) 4000 agreement, a full-scope service package to maximise uptime and performance. Turbine delivery is scheduled for the third quarter of 2015 and the wind power plant is expected to start production by end of the year and be fully commissioned in the second quarter of 2016.
“The Agios Georgios wind farm will utilise the vast Aegean Sea wind resources to produce clean energy and transport it through a dedicated submarine cable connection to a major demand centre in Attica. This project demonstrates once again our deep commitment to the Greek wind energy market. With this new order our long-lasting partnership with Vestas has taken another step forward”, says Manolis Maragoudakis, CEO of Terna Energy.
Marco Graziano, President of Vestas Mediterranean, comments, “We feel particularly proud of this project. Vestas has been present in Greece since 1986, but this new wind power plant represents a milestone in the country, as it involves challenges in terms of transportation and distribution that are typically more characteristic of offshore projects. This new order will consolidate our position in Greece and strengthen our relationship with Terna Energy”.
