Gamesa signs a contract with Vattenfall for the supply of 36 MW in Sweden

Gamesa, a global technology leader in wind energy, signed an agreement with the state-owned utility Vattenfall, one of Europe's leading power companies, for the supply of 36 MW in Sweden.

Under the terms of the agreement, Gamesa will supply and install 18 of its G97-2.0 MW turbines at the Höge Väg wind farm located in the municipality of Kristianstad in the county of Skåne, in southern Sweden. The turbines will be equipped with Gamesa's MaxPower technology, which increases the turbines' nominal capacity from 2.0 MW to 2.1 MW, thereby boosting the facility's output. The wind turbines are scheduled for delivery during the first half of 2015, while the facility is slated for commissioning towards the end of next year.

This is Gamesa's first supply order from Vattenfall. The deed-signing ceremony took place yesterday in Stockholm in the presence of Ricardo Chocarro, CEO for Europe & RoW, and Enrique Pedrosa, Sales Director, representing Gamesa, and Alberto Mendez Rebollo, Head of Vattenfall wind division, and Bent Johansen, Head of Generation, from Vattenfall.

"This agreement with Vattenfall, one of the world's leading energy players, represents a vote of confidence in our technology solutions. Moreover, this contract marks a fresh milestone in our product and sales strategy in northern Europe and, specifically, in Sweden, one of our priority markets", said Ricardo Chocarro, CEO of Gamesa Europe & RoW.

"It's very pleasing to be able to present a significant investment in renewable energy in southern Sweden. The project is completely in line with our strategy to invest in wind power only where there are good wind conditions and where it is profitable, and Höge Väg is such a location," observes Alberto Mendez Rebollo, Head of Vattenfall Vindkraft AB.

In Sweden, Gamesa has already installed close to 50 MW for Triventus, John Laing, Spanish Power and Eolus Vind AB. In addition to Sweden, Gamesa has a presence in other countries in northern Europe, where the company has installed more than 1,600 MW.

The Gamesa G97-2.0 MW is a standard-bearer in the sector thanks to its low power density in medium winds and it contributes to one of the company's top priorities: lowering the cost of energy (CoE). These traits make it the ideal platform for the northern European market. Gamesa has installed over 1,500 MW of this model worldwide.
