64.4 metre rotor blade delivered overnight

Sigmar Gabriel, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy and Vice-Chancellor of Germany is to open WindEnergy Hamburg on Monday evening, 22 September. The leading wind industry fair will be held in Hamburg for the first time from 23 to 26 September. More than 1,200 exhibitors from all parts of the world are expected at this premiere event, presenting their products on about 65,000 square metres of exhibition space. A 64.4 metre rotor blade was set up in front of the exhibition site this morning – signalling this huge industry event in Hamburg, the capital of the wind industry. This large-scale exhibit from turbine manufacturer Nordex SE is a global innovation.

On the evening before the leading global wind expo, Economics and Energy Minister Sigmar Gabriel will address 600 prominent international guests at the Opening Ceremony in Hamburg City Hall, highlighting the significance of the wind industry. For four days starting on Tuesday, the Hamburg Fair site will be the meeting point for energy experts from all over the world. WindEnergy Hamburg is the ideal platform for the global industry to engage in dialogue and present its new products, innovative technologies and essential services. WindEnergy Hamburg covers the whole of the value chain, both onshore and offshore. Its exhibitors include companies from more than 30 countries, and there will be 18 national pavilions where wind industry companies and organisations get together to provide information on their products and services.

WindEnergy gives trade visitors a whole host of information and networking opportunities. There will be presentations, workshops and panel discussions on the subjects of vital interest to the industry. And on Friday 26 September a Recruiting Day will put the spotlight on job opportunities, career planning and training & education.

World premiere at the Hamburg Fair site

Outstanding mega-exhibits like the 64.4 metre rotor blade on public display for the duration of the fair give a feel for the importance of wind energy. This impressive blade from an N131/3000 onshore turbine was transported to Hamburg and through its streets during the night, and installed on a special adaptor of the TII Group. This adaptor is designed to raise the gigantic rotor blade to an inclination angle of up to 70°, for better manoeuvring when passing through urban areas or difficult terrain. The turbine from Nordex SE is designed for low-wind locations. Its nominal output of 3.0 MW is 25% more than the previous model. It is one of the three blades which are assembled to form a rotor with a total diameter of 131 metres. The swept area of the rotor is as large as two world-class football pitches.
