Siemens Presents Onshore Innovations at WindEnergy Trade Fair in Hamburg

Premiere for new wind turbine optimized for sites with low wind speeds / Live opening of new remote diagnostics center as feature event for visitors / Hall B6, Booth 362

Ready for new markets: Under the banner slogan “Green Energy. Made in Hamburg”, Siemens Energy is presenting its newest products at the wind power trade fair "WindEnergy 2014" in Hamburg, Germany from September 23 through 26. Innovations include high-efficiency wind turbines for onshore sites with low wind speeds and a state-of-the-art approach to servicing wind power installations on land and at sea. One of the program highlights at Siemens Energy's exhibit, displayed across more than 200 square meters of expo floor space, will be the live opening of Siemens' Remote Diagnostics Center in the Danish city of Brande. Just like the wind turbine maintenance now performed across vast distances, the inauguration will be witnessed via modern data transmission bridging national borders. Visitors to Siemens' booth on Wednesday of the trade fair, September 24, will experience the event taking place 300 kilometers away in Denmark live, starting at 2:00 p.m.

Such complex data links are likewise an economical way to optimize the planning of technician deployments at the turbine sites. High-performance sensor technology enables the condition of practically every Siemens wind turbine unit to be monitored and analyzed in detail. In most cases, these systems save having to field-deploy technicians to wind turbine sites. And in most other cases, up-to-the-minute data analyses - which experts base on comparative checks against a vast store of data - aid in planning technician deployments particularly efficiently. Remote diagnostics can thus provide accurate indication for example of whether technician deployments can be executed within the scheduled maintenance cycle. This cuts costs considerably, especially for offshore wind farms.

Onshore as well, Siemens's innovations are lowering costs even further while also tapping into new markets: Siemens’ new wind turbine, specially designed for sites with low wind speeds, is setting new standards for energy yields at onshore installations.

“The WindEnergy trade fair is highly important to us not just because we are a Hamburg-based company,” exclaims Dr. Markus Tacke, CEO of Siemens Energy’s Wind Power Division. “We anticipate that this event will create major momentum for the German offshore market and onshore wind power markets throughout Europe.”

Wind power and the associated service activities are part of Siemens’ Environmental Portfolio. Around 43 percent of the company's revenues are generated by green products and solutions. That makes Siemens one of the world’s leading providers of eco-friendly technology.
