News Release from Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH
Wind Industry Profile of
Recruiting Day at the leading global event of the wind industry – central job exchange for specialists and companies
More and more wind turbines are being installed worldwide. At the same time, the industry is investing a lot of money and energy in the further development of turbines, rotors and components, to optimise production costs and electricity yield. So this dynamic industry offers a lot of interesting job and career opportunities, and is seeking experts worldwide. Altogether the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) predicts that by 2030 there will be more than 2.6 million people employed directly or indirectly in the wind industry. The wind industry provides more than 761,000 jobs in 2014, compared with 670,000 three years ago (all figures from GWEC). The great interest in skilled workers is taken up by WindEnergy Hamburg at the Recruiting Day on 26 September. This leading international wind industry show will be the meeting point for energy experts from the whole world for four days starting on 23 September.
The Recruiting Day will give wind industry companies a platform to present themselves to jobseekers of all kinds – experienced wind experts, lateral entrants and young professionals. On 26 September, the dedicated space located between Halls B1 and B2 features companies, agencies and universities making brief presentations and providing information at their stands on their current job and training course openings. They will also give employees, students and trainees a first impression of their organisations, and present their opportunities for further education, training and careers.
Specialists in demand worldwide
“We are searching intensively on behalf of wind industry companies for skilled workers, qualified supervisors, technicians and engineers who have experience in this sector. We are seeking in particular experts in commissioning, service and maintenance, and specialists for rotor blades for onshore turbines in Northern and Southern Germany, and for onshore and offshore turbines in the whole of Europe,” explains Lars Poslednik, Managing Director of Mensys Deutschland GmbH, a human resources consultant specialising in renewable energies. Nicola Gierke, Senior Recruiting Expert at Nordex SE, a manufacturer of onshore wind energy plant, adds: “Apart from Germany, where we have the most vacant positions, we are also looking for skilled people for various other locations. The main areas at present include Scandinavia, South Africa and the USA. We are also seeking students for internships and earn-as-you-learn programmes, and for students preparing their final degree theses. There is demand in many areas, from health & safety to service & maintenance. Of course candidates with experience in the wind industry are particularly in demand. We are likewise interested in people having knowledge of related sectors such as the automotive and aviation industries.”
The Woodward company, one of the leading suppliers of wind energy converters for onshore and offshore power generating, and also exhibiting at WindEnergy Hamburg, operates in fourteen countries. It is currently seeking engineers and technicians with experience in the industry, especially for companies in the US, Germany and Poland.
The business magazine Frankfurter Allgemeine with the F.A.Z. Jobs Market is a media partner on Recruiting Day, offering trade visitors advice on trends and career opportunities. Individual appointments can be arranged for this purpose.
HR Officers present
Apart from the companies exhibiting at the dedicated spaces between Halls B1 and B2, there will be numerous HR Officers of leading exhibitors present at the stands in all exhibition halls on 26 September, as contacts for applications and career opportunities. Anyone looking for a job or a training place can find the stands of these companies via the “Job Route” shown in the Visitor Guide, or online or in the WindEnergy app. All information on Recruiting Day is available at the website http://windenergyhamburg.com/en/for-visitors/programme/recruiting-day/

We are appealing to international students, as this course is designed for international activities,” explains Prof. Torsten Faber, Head of the Wind Energy Technology Institute (WETI). Other institutions present include the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW), the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), TU Berlin, ForWind, the Centre for Wind Energy Research of the Universities of Oldenburg, Hanover and Bremen, and the Munich University of Technology (TUM), plus the ProVentus Energy Academy, a further education academy for service and maintenance engineers.
