RWE Innogy: Glen Kyllachy Wind Farm refused

A proposal for RWE Innogy UK’s 20 turbine Glen Kyllachy Wind Farm near Tomatin has been turned down by The Highland Council’s South Planning Applications Committee – despite its planning officer recommending it go ahead.

The project manager, Keris McLeod said: “This is obviously disappointing news for us and we are surprised that Councillors on the Committee have gone against the planner’s recommendation for approval. We have the right to appeal this decision, which will incur significant costs on both sides, and are currently considering our options.

She added: “We feel we have designed a wind farm that is appropriate for the area in terms of the location, number and size of the turbines. This was further verified to us after we received no objections from most statutory consultees.”

“Developments like Glen Kyllachy not only make a substantial contribution to renewable energy targets, they also have a significant and positive impact on both the local and national economy. It is a shame that given today’s decision these benefits will not be realised any time soon.”
