Four Siemens 2.3 MW wind turbines in Denmark reach record 100 million kWh mark

Four Siemens semi-offshore wind turbines in Denmark have reached the significant milestone of having each generated 100 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity since being installed in 2003.

This is also a world record for the company. The combined production of 400 million kWh is enough clean energy to power over 100,000 average Danish households for one year.

The four SWT 2.3-82 turbines are located at the Roenland wind project in northwest Denmark, operated by Driftselskabet Rønland Havvindmøllepark I/S, and have consistently been some of the most productive wind turbines in the world.

The location of these four Siemens 2.3 MW turbines is unique as the wind farm is considered "semi-offshore" since the turbines cannot be reached by vehicle when the tide is in. With the North Sea to the west and a fjord to the east, the conditions are ideal for achieving optimal power production. Also contributing to this milestone is the long-running service and maintenance Siemens wind service technicians and engineering experts continue to provide in close collaboration with the wind farm owner.

"Siemens is at the forefront of advanced wind service solutions designed to help customers realize the full lifetime potential of their assets with optimum reliability, availability and resource efficiency," said Torben Bang, Head of Siemens Wind Power Service. "This notable achievement is a testament to the many years of close and continuing collaboration we have with our customer at Roenland and we congratulate them on this success."

At the end of last year, more than 33 percent of Danish electricity was supplied from wind turbines and 656 new MW were connected to the electricity grid. In March 2012, the Danish Parliament approved a new ambitious energy agreement, which calls for 50 percent of the electricity consumption to be supplied by wind power by 2020.

Wind power service is part of Siemens' Environmental Portfolio. Approximately 43 percent of its total revenue stems from green products and solutions. That makes Siemens one of the world's leading providers of eco-friendly technologies.
